Steve is an experienced and accomplished business leader with years of experience at the most senior levels. After 5 years of benefitting from Vistage membership, Steve is building a Vistage group to provide CEOs with the vital perspectives he believes they need to test ideas, overcome obstacles and seize opportunities to achieve personal and business growth.

Steve’s working life started underground as a coal miner before 35 years in the Royal Navy where he rose to the rank of Captain during a range of demanding jobs at sea, ashore and abroad. He has led numerous expeditions to climb the world’s highest mountains and has been published on team selection for such challenging ventures. In 2006 he founded a business in Bavaria & Leeds to develop leadership and team-working skills for Clients, including Unilever, Weston Homes, Northern Foods, Premier Foods, Leeds City Council and Leeds Metropolitan University. That business was sold in 2020. In 2010 he created the Royal British Legion’s residential recovery centre for wounded, injured & sick Servicemen and women with life-changing injuries. Over 6,000 have benefitted to date.

He gained a Masters degree in Leadership at Lancaster University in 2015 and secured a lecturing role at Leeds Trinity University. His 2015 e-book Clinical Leadership was launched by the Princess Royal.

From 2013-2020 Steve was the first CEO of Mary Stevens Hospice Group, where he led a team of 685 staff & volunteers caring for people with progressive terminal illness. He chaired two subsidiary businesses that helped raise some of the £3.5M needed every year to fund services. He completely transformed the organisation and significantly increased the organisation’s ability to achieve his aim of ‘doing more for more people’.
