Chair Bio

Chris Everard

East & West Midlands UK, Vistage Chair since June 2014

Retail pioneer, business leader, successful entrepreneur and rugby coach: Chris’s story explains why so many fast-growing businesses demand his experience, vision and competitive energy.

The vocation began with a bicycle repair business in his father’s shed. It drove him early from school into the Merchant Navy, then to sales for Nestlé and advertising for Goodyear Tyres. In 1986 he arrived at the newly expanding frontier of retail design, and seven formative years later he launched his own point of purchase company – Sector Design.

Sector quickly became a market leader, attracting some of the world’s largest retail brands and winning major international awards for creativity, quality and service.

In 1995 Chris sold Sector via a management buy-out and went in pursuit of a new goal: to be a Rugby Union coach. Winning instincts and a gift for building teams saw Chris the rugby coach leading tours to Europe, South Africa and Australia and becoming a Leicester Tigers Vice President and Academy Coach.

Like all true team builders Chris has learnt his limits: the success of his buy-to-let portfolio is down to his wife Debora — and the maintenance experts who persuaded him to put down the plunger and power tools.

In the past ten years Chris has helped create a stream of SME business success stories across manufacturing, retail, financial services, event management, brand strategy and communications. Outcomes have included two acquisitions, three sales, several new management teams and the creation of a US division.

Whether as chair, non-exec director or consultant Chris knows how to give decision makers a shared view of the possibilities ahead and the belief to make them real.

Chris says: “The principles of success have changed surprisingly little over time but the proof only comes with experience. It’s a privilege to be able to share such experience in a way that helps people and businesses fulfil their potential”.
