Lancashire, Vistage Chair since April 2014
A proud Northerner, Hamish is passionate about the North West of England and the growth of the region. Having worked within the senior management teams of high growth businesses throughout his career, he now spends his time assisting companies and Chief Executives through mentoring, coaching, consultancy and angel investment.
Coming from a long line of entrepreneurs, Hamish set up his first successful business whilst at University, before joining Price Waterhouse in Manchester as an accountant. On qualifying as a Chartered Accountant he was headhunted by an American manufacturing company to head up their European finance team within their UK operation.
Hamish has operated at board level all his working life, developing extensive experience of all aspects of company operations within high growth entrepreneurial companies spanning multiple sectors. One company featured in the Sunday Times Profit Track 100 for three consecutive years, a feat only achieved by 7 companies in the history of the index at that time.
His experiences within entrepreneurial and VC backed companies include strategic planning, corporate acquisitions, disposals, raising finance, business transformation, leadership development, business planning, operations and change management.
Consultancy, effective leadership and angel investment
Having sold out in 2007, Hamish now focuses on providing mentoring, coaching and advisory services to companies and entrepreneurs. He has also been involved in specific projects for his clients involving business turnaround, forensic accounting, fraud investigation and subsequent cash recovery.
Whilst hugely rewarding, many of those challenges resulted in sleep deprivation, hair loss and the odd mistake! Now much older and wiser he aims to help others not only achieve their goals and avoid the pitfalls, but also sleep well and retain their youthful good looks!
Hamish joined a Vistage peer advisory group in 2013. He was impressed by the effectiveness of the groups and the one to one sessions as well as the world class speakers. In particular he saw the unique benefits of the opportunity to talk with experienced and knowledgeable peers in a safe and confiding environment.
Hamish has decided to establish a Chief Executive group of his own within the North West. This Group will be for MD’s and business owners of all types of company with a turnover of circa £3m or above. If you are interested to see if Vistage could help you become a better leader and your business more successful, get in touch with Hamish now.
