John Holden

Bristol & Somerset, Vistage Chair since 2015

John has spent his career working for HSBC, in the UK and across several countries in the Middle East and Asia. Over the last ten years, he has operated as country CEO for HSBC’s insurance businesses in Taiwan, South Korea and India. He now spends his time working with CEOs and business leaders, helping them make faster, better decisions to grow their businesses, while keeping their own lives in balance.

Earlier in his career John worked as a management trainer, running programmes all over the world, from Argentina, Brazil, US, to the Middle East and Asia. It is this role that developed his passion for facilitating and coaching.

In a career spanning over 30 years, John has worked in five different countries building a track record of operating and growing businesses in challenging situations. John has been CEO of mid-sized insurance companies with turnover up to £200m and over 1,300 staff in three different countries, leading significant regulatory change, startups, M&A and joint ventures.

The challenge of working in emerging markets and across cultures has given John exposure to a wide variety of working styles, business cultures and a great number of sticky situations. In turn, this has generated a bank of tried and tested techniques for exploring, understanding and solving business challenges.

John brings his broad personal experience, together with an understanding of how to diagnose, coach and support a range of business situations, to his home town of Bristol with the launch of his Vistage Group. This Group will consist of MDs and business owners of all types of companies, with a turnover of between £5m and £150m.
