Speaker Bio

John Hotowka

The real reason John Hotowka is in demand as a speaker is not just because he’s observant, insightful and funny but also because of the way he communicates his message so the audience takes action.

John is a fellow of the Professional Speaking Association and a member of the Magic Circle. He’s been speaking to corporate audiences since 1989 and has an uncanny knack of simplifying a complex message and communicating it with comedy, stories and magic.

He’s experienced the highs and lows of running his own business and learnt from the numerous blue chip organisations and small businesses he’s worked with.

In 2002 he suffered a crisis in confidence and piece by piece using his ‘Achievement Thinking’ methodology he rebuilt his life and career. He’s faced many celebrations and challenges to maintain a thriving business and keep himself motivated through all the highs and lows.

Now he’s a sought after speaker delivering mainly keynotes on the corporate circuit, working with the likes of Nestle, Unilever, Virgin Holiday and Prudential to name but a few.

Recently he challenged himself to apply his ‘Achievement Thinking’ methodology normally used in business to his personal life and lost 100 lbs (45 Kgs) in 100 weeks. As they say the proof of the pudding was in the eating (not literally of course).

John joined the Vistage Speaker Bureau from The Academy for Chief Executives in May 2018.

Being Brave - A toolkit for Resilient Leaders

Overview:

It doesn't matter how 'tough' you are there will always be someone or something bigger that knocks you off your feet. When it does happen (and it does to everyone) the key is to be resilient; to have the right tools and methods to enable you to bounce back. As a leader, it's critical you can do this. After all, if you can't how can you expect your team to?

During this time in the corporate world and later running a small business (as a speaker, humorist and magician) that boasted nearly half the blue chip companies in the UK as clients, John learnt a lot about success and resilience.

He observed that, even when times are hard, there were always people and organisations who were successful and resilient. What’s more, they also flourished irrespective of the state of the economy and the challenges thrown at them.

He wondered if this "Achievement Thinking" mind-set could be learned… He discover it could.

John also realised that all the training and knowledge in the world won’t help you achieve outstanding results unless you have the right mind-set, attitude and resilience to be self-motivated. Above all else, you need to Take Action!

So, what John has put together has exactly the right blend of theory, demonstration and practical group/individual exercises to make sure everybody leaves the room having already taken action to improve their resilience as leaders.

In attending this session you will be learning the same skills and techniques that John has taught clients including: Nestle, Zurich Insurance, Unilever, Prudential, Virgin Holidays to name a few.

Outcomes: after completing this session you will:

  • Understand the BRAVE Model and be able to apply it daily to build resilience in you and your team.
  • Have specific tools and techniques to give you focus and clarity in your decision making.
  • Understand the key difference between being a Problem Solver and a Solution Finder and be able to apply it to yourself and your team.
  • Be able to identify the right approach to take in 'high stress' situations to ensure they don't 'blow up' in your face.
  • Be able to include fun into your daily routine in a way that adds to your ability to get things done rather than taking away your focus.

Engage With Your Audience Influence, Persuade And Win

Overview:

Executives are not only strategists and planners they're also communicators and in this day and age they have to communicate their message in an engaging way. Stories and metaphors are usually used to help our audiences understand and remember the points to be made. To make a message stick in their hearts and minds sometimes something even more powerful and effective is needed.

Tony Buzan the father of mind-mapping carried out studies and found the use of visual aids generally heightens retention of the spoken word by up to 70%... 70%!

Which is why magic and metaphors are so effective.

John's workshop is so very different to any workshop you've experienced before, as well as being engaging it’s fun and challenging.

This session aka ‘Present and Communicate Your Message More Clearly Using Metaphor and MAGIC’ is really a cunningly disguised presentations skills master class building on the presentation skills each individual attendees has.

Outcomes:

  • Improved communication skills
  • Improved presentation skills
  • Improved coaching skills
  • Improved problem solving skills
  • Improved delegation skills
  • Attendees become more focused on their business issues and message
  • Attendees experience a sense of achievement and they'll even get a round of applause for it

Attendees will be, challenged, taken out of their comfort zone, have fun and become competitive.

This session promotes total group participation and energy levels will be raised through laughter.  The joint experience raises morale and encourages group bonding.

Even though the whole session involves the group having fun learning and presenting simple magic tricks, more importantly, they'll have clarity of their corporate message and how to communicate it.
