Speaker Bio

Piers Thurston

I am a specialist in state of mind and mindset transformation – unlocking the invisible power of the human mind in business. I enable individuals, groups or organisations to significantly increase their levels of clarity, creativity, motivation and resilience. This improves the quality of their lives and work, and increases their effectiveness in whatever they do.

I coach, facilitate and train.

I started my career in consumer branding – understanding and enabling brands to use insight and innovation to leverage consumer needs. It was a fascinating area of work, as it involved plenty of psychology and inquiry but it was subject to the mindset of the brand owner ‘to do the right thing’ so wasn’t quite ‘upstream’ enough to the real source of the human condition for my liking!

Twelve years ago I discovered the world of personal development coaching. Since then I have developed businesses working with individuals, teams and organisations to enable them to realise their potential from an inside-out perspective, enabling ‘behind the eye’ change.

I am constantly curious as to the nature of the human experience and have inquired into the areas of: The 3 Principles, Coaching, NLP, Transactional Analysis, Hypnotherapy, EFT, Clean Language, Symbolic Modelling, and Positive Psychology.

My Clients Experience

  • More inspiration, effectiveness, and overlooked levels of capability. Significant reduction in stress, and higher levels of engagement and rapport.
  • Higher levels of peace of mind. A greater sense of authenticity and are affected less by what others think.
  • More resilience, and become ‘discouragement proof’.
  • A renewed sense of meaning and connection.
  • Decision-making becomes more obvious and an increase in what they believe is possible.
  • A deeper sense of joy, satisfaction and meaning – life becomes more effortless and simple.

How Do I Do That?

My approach to change is probably different to most things you will come across. After 15 years in the personal development and change arena, I am now clear and focused on what is most effective. My purpose is to enable people to leverage the biggest variable in human performance – what I call ‘Quality of Mind’. It is usually misunderstood, and often invisible.

For my clients, whatever the presenting issue or opportunity, it is likely to be based on a degree of inherent misunderstanding and lack of clarity at a fundamental level about how the human system actually creates their experience. Once people have a realisation about the principles of how we create our experience and Quality of Mind, it can transform not only that issue/opportunity but their lives in general.

Those exploring this approach have seen radical shifts in the nature and impact of their work in a range of fields including leadership, business performance, sales, innovation, resilience and mental health and personal development.

My Experience

I have been a business and personal development coach since 2001, with over 5000 coaching hour experience; ranging from national newspaper editors, to Sheiks in Riyadh, to international sports people.

I have trained and mentored more than 750 people in coaching skills and created coaching cultures in large organisations.

Experience in over 15 countries as a workshop facilitator, using ‘dynamic facilitation’ to enable high quality emergent dialogue, and I am a thought lead on topics including Quality of Mind, strategy, innovation, leadership and branding.

Organisations I have worked with include: Unilever, Mars Masterfoods UK, USA, and ANZ, Ford, CPW, Kraft Foods UKand ANZ, Coca Cola, Nestle, Britvic, FutureBrand, GSK, Starwood, Anglepoise, HSBC, Barclays and London Boroughs of Camden and Croydon.

Quality of Mind – the Hidden Leadership Variable

Overview:

Mindset is an increasingly recognised performance variable. But is a largely misunderstood one and its impact is generally under-appreciated. When leaders see the difference that improved Quality of Mind can have on everything from their own personal well-being to their impact on their teams and organisations as a whole, it becomes obvious just how vital this understanding is to their business and their life.

Using a new understanding of psychology, this workshop enables people to have a fresh look at the principles behind human experience (the vital difference between how we really think, and how we think we think). Enabling people to see the role that our Quality of Mind plays in all aspects of our lives.

Keypoints:

This workshop will act as introduction for delegates to a potentially transformational understanding about how to unlock far higher levels of organisation performance and wellbeing.

  • Understand what is meant by Quality of Mind, and how it affects us and everything we do.
  • Be able to identify different levels of Quality of Mind and the effect they have on us, our employees, clients and organisations.
  • Understand Quality of Mind as the key to improved effectiveness, communication and influence and the basis for easier behavioural change.
  • Understand the factors that determine our Quality of Mind, so you can see the route to a higher freedom of mind and higher clarity of mind in any circumstance.
  • Get the chance to dialogue and apply the issue of Quality of Mind to your own challenges and objectives.

Outcomes:

The takeaway/value add is in the form of the delegates having ‘insights’ (aha! moments) where they leave with a feeling they have realised something new and fundamental about:

  • The nature and source of any experience and human resourcefulness and wellbeing.
  • Increased clarity on an issue/opportunity they may have.
