Speaker Bio

Shay McConnon

Few speakers have the ability to deliver life changing messages as they make their audiences laugh. Shay McConnon is one of them. Shay is a psychologist, an author and the founder of People First an international training and consultancy group that specialises in leadership and culture issues.

He is the creator of ‘An Even Better Place to Work’, an online, self-managed solution that prevents people problems and encourages the ‘What am I going to do?’ not the ‘What is management going to do?’ mindset.

This solution is now in five languages and used on four continents by Siemens, the Environment Agency, NHS, Qatar Airways, CERN, Geneva police and other leading organisations globally to engage their staff and promote ownership.

He is a member of the Magic Circle and he uses magic to illustrate his key messages in a fun and memorable way.

“One of the most motivational, educational and moving keynote addresses we have ever heard- it was also the funniest by far!” NACGT Conference organiser.

Because of his innovative work on engagement, Shay has been invited to be a member of the government backed task force on employee engagement, headed up by David McLeod. His employee engagement tool ‘An Even Better Place to Work’ was a finalist in the Association of Business Psychology Awards for employee engagement.

Collaborative Working Relationships

The greatest source of inefficiency for most organisations lies in working relationships

  • 75+% of people leave jobs because of relationship issues
  • A typical manager loses 25% of his/her day to unnecessary
  • Only 30% of people trust their bosses

Despite billions being spent on leadership, we keep on having the same old costly people problems - conflict, mistrust, low morale and disengagement.

Being skilled in relationships is not a soft option but fundamental to business success. Collaborative working relationships lead to greater efficiency, productivity and profitability.

Engage Your People and Drive Performance

Overview:

Engagement is a way of being, of working and of doing business. It is about engaging with the job, colleagues, the leadership and mission of the organisation. It is multi-faceted and complex. Staff themselves, need to be engaged with the engagement process rather then something ‘done to them’ by management

Gallop research shows that:

  • 20% of staff are actively disengaged
  • 50% are not engaged
  • 30% are highly engaged

With highly engaged staff Gallop says you can expect:

  • Attrition rates to be 40% lower
  • Casual absenteeism to be 90% lower
  • Customer loyalty 12% higher
  • Revenue growth 25% higher

This makes the business case for engagement. But how do you do it?

Shay has spent 20 years working in this space and has created a ready-made Employee Engagement solution, An Even Better Place to Work. This is a self-managed, on-line solution of activities, measures and resources that quickly creates a well led, engaged and highly productive workforce.

Shay will share with you the design and the principles behind this solution and give you practical examples and tools you can use immediately to engage your staff and get them taking ownership for their issues.

Learn how to embed the What am I going to do? not What is management going to do for me? mind-set and the difference this has made to the culture of Amey, Siemens, Environment Agency and other leading organisations globally.

Shay gives you not only the Why and the What of engagement but the How To. He will show you how to create highly engaged people and make your place of work an even better place to work.

This workshop is suitable for a half day retreat and a full day retreat which covers all the topics above and the extra time allows for deep discussion on key points where required.
