Vistage started from very humble beginnings over five decades ago. One October morning in 1957, a Wisconsin businessman named Robert Nourse met with four fellow chief executives in the office of the Milwaukee Valve Company to test a simple, yet revolutionary idea—share their knowledge and experiences to help each other generate better results for themselves and their businesses. Soon this group of businessmen were probing, asking questions and making suggestions. They challenged each other, working together to solve issues and grow.
At that moment, The Executive Committee (TEC) and the first Executive Leadership Program was born.
Today, TEC is known as Vistage and operates in 16 countries around the world. Our members meet in private advisory groups every month under the same guiding principles—to help one another become better leaders, make better decisions and achieve better results.
What’s more, Vistage members are connecting in ways Nourse never could have imagined: learning from hundreds of top industry speakers, tapping into a vast online resource library, and collaborating online around the world.
Robert Nourse: “You can imagine how excited I was, when halfway into our very first TEC meeting, all the members removed their jacket and ties, rolled up their sleeves and said, ‘Now, let’s get down to work’”.
Vistage is still focused on the heritage Bob created – that’s why Vistage still works and enables today’s business leaders to get answers and take action.
WORK ON YOUR BUSINESS, NOT IN IT
When you own or run a business, even the simplest decisions can have profound implications.
Vistage members find that the peer advisory and leadership development training we provide has a profound effect on their growth as a leader. Not surprisingly, our members soon discover that their companies also experience significant growth as a direct result of the executive leadership coaching provided by their Vistage group.
Vistage works because in every group and in every meeting, no topic is off-limits. If you are willing to talk candidly about the tough decisions you face, fellow members will rally around you, listen, ask tough questions and bring to bear every resource they have to help you grow as a leader and improve the workings of your business. When our members have access to new perspectives – whether from fellow business peers, their Vistage Chair, or expert speakers – they expand their view beyond their company walls in a way that traditional executive leadership training just can’t offer.
Members report that our leadership development initiatives help them grow, learn, and find new ways to apply their newfound knowledge to their businesses. Vistage private advisory groups enable business leaders to leverage the wisdom and experience of their peers, the guidance of an expert leadership coach (called a Vistage Chair) and the collective knowledge of the worldwide Vistage community.
With Vistage you recharge your thinking, learn from fellow CEOs, count on trusted & confidential advice and seize opportunities for immediate results.
