5 Reasons Your Business Needs a Facebook Page

Facebook. Is it right for a business or just a social site we use to check in on our friends and family? The answer is easy. It’s a business tool. Why? Because people do business with people and on Facebook we can easily share stories associated with businesses, both B2B and B2C.

Look at it more strategically. How do most people hear about your business? Referrals, word of mouth right? Facebook facilitates those referrals. Think about it. If you need a new plumber, where would you post, “who knows a good plumber?” If you need a new accountant, where would you post, “who knows a good accountant?” What about if you needed a new paper supplier, or a new software vendor for your CRM system, or a new marketing company? The answer is always the same. Facebook.

Please don’t misinterpret what I am saying. Facebook isn’t the only source, but it is a great source that you must take advantage of if you have a solid marketing program.

Here are five more reasons:

1. People have to get to know, like and trust you BEFORE they hire you. On Facebook people see pictures about your company, read items your firm is doing, and download helpful information. It goes a long way to getting them to know, like and trust you and your firm.

2. It’s easy to share information on Facebook. More than likely your prospects are on Facebook. If someone sees that one of their friends is looking for a firm like yours, they will share the contact.

3. People need validation before they can make a purchase decision. Often there is a positive discussion on Facebook around a particular topic or provider. Knowing that others used you and had a positive experience helps prospects feel safe.

4. Content on a Facebook page drives back links to your website. Google gives high marks and moves you up in the search rankings for links to your website from high traffic and respected sites. Facebook scores high for traffic and respectability.

5. It is easy to maintain. In some cases even easier than your own website. Regular updates keeps your content fresh and helps prospects see what is going on at your company.

Last but not least. Facebook pages are part of the new Get Found approach to driving website traffic. No longer do we solely rely on Google. Bing, or Yahoo rankings to drive traffic. Now we look for a broader approach that places high value content on sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Yelp and others.
